It is with a heavy heart and sadness that we share the following news with the Georgia Men’s Gymnastics community.
This past Wednesday, June 2, 2021,  we lost a member of our gymnastics family in an accident that occurred in the Chattahoochee River in Cobb County.  Jake Whatley was a Level 10 Junior Elite athlete and a member of the Roswell Gymnastics team.  Before joining Roswell a few years ago, he was a member of the boys team at Newnan School of Gymnastics for four years.  He recently competed at the Men’s Developmental Program National Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida proudly representing his club, his state, and Region 8.  He was a high-flying gymnast, a great teammate, and an incredible person.
To his teammates Jake was a great friend.  For his coaches, he was the type of athlete every coach wants as part of their team.  And to other coaches, Jake was known as a polite and respectful young man and a fine young gymnast.  His loss is a loss to all those who knew him and to our community as a whole. Please send your thoughts and prayers to Nim, the Whatley family, and the entire Roswell and Newnan gymnastics teams for this unfortunate tragedy.  We will pull together as a community and support our fellow families the best we can.
Jake’s mother Nim welcomes everyone to attend the funeral to celebrate Jake’s life with the community he so loved.
